In USA Films’ upbeat “Monsoon Wedding” there is enough of a party going on throughout the Indian pic that the L.A. preem settled for a street performance by the USC Bhangra Dance Team outside the newly renovated Landmark Regent Westwood prior to the Thursday night private screening for KCRW listeners.
“This film has heart and humanity,” said Jack Foley, president of distribution and marketing for USA Films. “We intend to seek, stalk and possess the perfect audience for this film.”
“This could be a phenomenon,” he said hopefully; “the New York opening was shocking.”
Paul Richardson, Landmark prexy & CEO, also was on hand touting the new features of the Westwood theater, which he said “will go after exclusive bookings while bringing art back to Westwood.”
The theater has the same number of seats (400), with Richardson striving for “a nice neighborhood theater, nothing too over the top.”
While the inside is complete, the update for the venue’s exterior is waiting on final approval from the city.
