Thesps on model behavior

'Runway' fund-raiser struts Ellis fashions

Stars followed their fashion conscience down the “Runway for Life,” a benefit luncheon and fashion show for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the BevHilton on Saturday.

Cindy Crawford, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Natasha Henstridge, Lolita Davidovich, Daisy Fuentes and Cybill Shepherd were among thesps who mixed with models in a runway show of Robert Ellis’ designs. Set to a lush “Moulin Rouge” theme, dancers tangoed and twirled in the background as the stars strutted their stuff.Fuentes, who said she visits the Memphis hospital founded by Danny Thomas whenever she can, added that show was a refreshing change from the usual modeling fare. “You can actually smile when you walk down the runway here, and people won’t think you’re not cool,” she said.

Fellow runway veteran Crawford agreed. “It’s less pressure … people are here just to have a good time,” she said. She advised the less-experienced models to “just smile, and have a good time.”

Stiller also got caught up in the frenzy backstage. “It’s fun, kind of like a school play — that kind of excitement,” he said.
