It was a very mellow Monday morning for anyone attending the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival breakfast Monday on the Plage du Grand Hotel.

Guests were regaled with piped-in velvet rhythms of Jorge Benjor and singer Joyce, Brazilian passion fruit and coconut corn cake, and champagne.

With the fest launching a raft of industry initiatives, Cannes-goers welcomed by fest co-director Ilda Santiago and market topper Iafa Britz included not only directors such as Alexander Payne, Stephen Frears and Agnes Varda but producers Matthias Ehrenberg, Enrique Ortiga and Juliette Bunuel, Tony Manne, now at his Bristol Media consultancy, and festival stalwarts Jane Barclay and Peter Daly, who help lead training workshops at the festival, a growing production and distribution springboard for Latin America.
