Axel Petersen, a longtime employee in the CBS Media Relations department, died June 24 of cancer at his home in Blaine, Wash. He was 70.

Petersen joined CBS in 1957 beginning as a typist and winding up his career as a director in CBS’ entertainment publicity department. During his 34 years at the network, he was responsible for organizing their semiannual press tours.

He is survived by his brother and two nieces.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
