Comedy Central taps research VP

Giacopelli moves over from USA Cable

Comedy Central has signed Ray Giacopelli to take charge of its research operation.

Giacopelli, who will have the title of veep at Comedy Central, was most recently senior VP of research for USA Cable, where he analyzed Nielsen ratings for the USA Network, Sci Fi Channel, Trio and News World Intl.

Giacopelli joined USA in 1986 from the Family Channel as a research analyst. He worked his way up, adding the Sci Fi Channel to his purview in 1992.

Before USA, Giacopelli spent six years at Warner Bros. Pictures as a development executive. In that role, he developed the novel “The Short-Timers” by Gustav Hasford as the basis for Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam pic “Full Metal Jacket.”

Giacopelli joins Comedy Central at a time when the network has been extending its reach at a rapid clip. In the last year, the web added access to about 7.5 million homes, swelling its total to 80 million.
