PBS offers Nottage’s ‘Poof!’

Latest installment stars Perez as abused housewife

PBS will continue its American Shorts series with “Poof!,” a one-hour drama adapted from the short play by Brooklyn playwright Lynn Nottage.

Rosie Perez will star as an abused housewife who damns her husband to hell and is surprised when he follows her instructions. Viola Davis also stars.

“Poof!” will be directed by Fred Barzyk and produced by Guy Mendes.

Among those who support the American Shorts project are Tony Kushner, Joyce Carol Oates, David Henry Hwang, Mercedes Ruehl and Lily Tomlin.

Series premiered in August 2000 with Arthur Miller’s “The Ryan Interview,” which starred Ashley Judd and Eddie Bracken.
