Executive turned producer turned director Rob Cohen is the first signing for newly formed Original, the full-service management production company formed by Neal Moritz and Marty Adelstein in April.
Original will represent Cohen in all areas of entertainment, including film, television and commercials, as well as general marketing and branding initiatives for Cohen’s established production company, Cornwall Prods. Cohen’s collaboration with Original marks his first alignment with a management company; he continues to be repped by the William Morris Agency.
Cohen emerged as one of the most hotly sought after action helmers after last summer’s sleeper “The Fast and the Furious” grossed more than $200 million worldwide.
His next feature, “XXX,” with Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson, bows this August, and like his previous efforts, it will be produced by Moritz. With “XXX,” Cohen will have partnered with Original Film on four consecutive projects, including HBO telepic “The Rat Pack,” U’s “The Skulls” and “Furious.”
Cohen has also worked as a TV director, with credits on skeins including “Miami Vice” and “thirtysomething,” and he previously produced pics including “The Witches of Eastwick,” “The Running Man,” “Ironweed” and “Bird on a Wire.” He entered Hollywood as head of production for the newly formed film division of Motown Records, producing the 1975 pic “Mahogany.”
Original was founded last months as an equal partnership between former Endeavor founding partner Adelstein and producer Moritz. Original’s intent is to incorporate the assets of both: Moritz is known for pics including “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Not Another Teen Movie, “Cruel Intentions” and “Blue Streak”; Adelstein reps talent clients including David E. Kelley, Bonnie and Terry Turner, Simon West, Jan De Bont and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
