Dutch kidvid buyer Els Kuiper has an impressive track record to live up to when she goes shopping. The broadcaster recently won three prizes at the Prix Jeunesse in Germany.
“Our own programming sets the standard and the acquired programming has to measure up to it,” says Kuiper. “We like programming that both kids and parents can watch together, so it can’t be just moving wallpaper primarily intended as a baby sitter for children.”
But surveying the field, Kuiper says, “It’s been a meager year. There isn’t much out there that is new or original.”
Kuiper will be on the hunt at Mipcom for new live-action shows and she says she’d love to see just one good feature film for kids. “There are a lot of family movies out there about divorce and other problems in kids’ lives. Anyone have just one good really fun movie?”
