BBC goes ‘Boo!’

Mipcom Brief

CANNES — The BBC has picked up Universal Television’s preschool series “Boo!,” produced by U.K. indie Tell-Tale Prods., and will make its premiere on the British pubcaster in fall 2003.

The series (52 segs of 10 minutes each) is based on the game of hide-and-seek. At Mipcom on Monday, Natalie Osborne, VP, children’s programming, Universal Television Distribution, noted that hide-and-seek is “a favorite played by preschoolers all over the world, which provides an inherent mass appeal for children of all nations.”

Characters in the series include Laughing Duck, Growling Tiger and Sleeping Bear.

Denmark’s Egmont has signed on as book publisher for the U.K. and Commonwealth countries.

“Boo!” was created by Tell-Tale’s Will Brenton and Iain Lauchlan, who also came up with “Tweenies,” which aired on the Beeb and has been licensed in more than 40 territories.
