The late R&B singer Aaliyah and ABC series “Alias” topped the 2002 American Choreography Awards nominee list, with two each. Kudos from the Academy of Dance on Film recognize achievement in television, feature film, musicvideo, short film and commercials.
Feature film nominees are “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Lagaan” and “Monsoon Wedding.” Installments of “Ally McBeal,” “Even Stevens,” “Scrubs,” ‘That ’70s Show” and “The Wayne Brady Show” will compete for the episodic TV award.
TV variety programs and specials “Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour,” the opening ceremony for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, the 74th Academy Awards, “The M.C. Hammer Story” and “Aeros” will vie for that category’s kudos.
Two episodes of “Alias” face off against “Angel,” “Deuces Wild,” “15 Minutes” and “Spider-Man” for recognition in fight choreography.
Aaliyah’s musicvids “More Than a Woman” and “Rock the Boat” are up against vids from Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Skinnee J’s and Usher.
Honorary kudos will go to Jackie Chan (innovator award), Henry LeTang (educator award) and Marge and Gower Champion (career achievement award).
Kudofest will be held Oct. 20 at the El Capitan.
