The New York premiere of Richard Nelson’s “The General From America” will kick off the Theater for a New Audience’s 24th season.
Corin Redgrave will headline the staging, directed by Nelson and co-produced by the Alley Theater. The play about Benedict Arnold originally was seen at the Royal Shakespeare Co. in 1996. It will play Nov. 16-Dec. 22 at the Lucille Lortel Theater, where the company’s season will take place. Opening night is Nov. 21.
Next production will be Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” directed by Karin Coonrod, who helmed “King John” for the company. “JC” begins perfs Jan. 14 for a Jan. 19 opening, and runs through Feb. 23.
Season will conclude with Moliere’s “Don Juan,” directed by Bartlett Sher. Byron Jennings is in negotiations to play the title role. Jennings won an Obie for Theater for a New Audience’s production of “Waste,” also directed by Sher. “Don Juan” begins previews March 18 for an opening March 23, and runs through April 20.
