String Theory

"String Theory" is stuck in a hippy-dippy time-warp, with its celebration of the virtues of marijuana, assorted hallucinogens and jumping naked into the Pacific Ocean, along with condemnation of cell phones, lease vehicles and, natch, corrupt authority figures. This "String"is in no danger of traveling far -- at least not past Berkeley.

“String Theory” is stuck in a hippy-dippy time-warp, with its celebration of the virtues of marijuana, assorted hallucinogens and jumping naked into the Pacific Ocean, along with condemnation of cell phones, lease vehicles and, natch, corrupt authority figures. Appropriately enough, pic is shot, set and had its world premiere in decidedly left-leaning Santa Monica. But this “String”is in no danger of traveling far — at least not past Berkeley.

Title refers to one of several metaphysical ideas expounded upon by pic’s protagonist David (Carmen Mormino), who happens to be a part-time college student, advocate for the homeless, Brazilian martial arts expert and recreational drug user, all with no discernible source of income. He’s HIV positive, too. There’s more, but it’s all as useful to recount as a drug-addled flashback.
