Wellspring Media has acquired U.S. rights to “Carnage,” a Cannes Director’s Fortnight entry last year, directed by Delphine Gleize and starring Chiara Mastroianni and Angela Molina.
Wellspring plans a November release. Pic was acquired from Paris-based Wild Bunch.
“Carnage” traces the unexpected connections forged between an array of characters in the aftermath of a tragic bullfight. Gleize’s short pic “Sale Battars” won more than 20 awards, including the Cesar for best short film in 2000.
Krysanne Katsoolis, Wellspring’s senior veep of acquisitions, said: “This is a stylish and entertaining film, showcasing a bold new talent. Each year, we want to release at least one film from a new filmmaker. The film’s sophistication and mastery immediately struck us. Gleize is definitely a talent to foster. ”
Wellspring recently released “Notorious C.H.O.” Last year, it released the Charlotte Rampling starrer “Under the Sand,” which grossed nearly $1.5 million.
