LONDON — Stewart Till’s Signpost Films is partnering with Hoyts Distribution on an Australian distribution arm to bow in January.
Signpost Films Australia will control its own marketing and distribution, with Hoyts handling theatrical sales and providing office space.
Signpost also will access Hoyts’ video distribution deal with Sony.
After the opening and rapid closure of its Canadian arm earlier this year, this marks the first real step by Signpost toward fulfilling its strategy of distributing its own films in key territories worldwide.
For Hoyts, which launched its first film, “Monster’s Ball,” in March, the deal nails down a regular supplier of quality pics.
“We’re delighted to be in business with Signpost Films in Australia and New Zealand,” said Paul Johnson, chairman of Hoyts Distribution. “With Stewart Till’s track record and the Hoyts name, the future of the partnership looks fantastic.”
Darryl Iwai, Signpost’s president of worldwide distribution, commented: “This is one of those unique opportunities to partner with a company under Paul Johnson’s very strong leadership and Robert Slaviero’s wealth of distribution experience.”
