Showtime to fund 9/11 shorts

Nine Tisch filmmakers chosen

Showtime has selected nine projects by students from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for its Visions From Ground Zero project. The nine filmmakers will receive funding to produce shorts based on their winning treatments and storyboards.

Shorts will bow on Showtime on the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Selected projects are: “Twice a Day” by Kelly Atkins; “Engine Trouble,” Brad Barnes; “From the 97th Floor,” Sergei Bassine; “Unfurled,” Bryan Gunner Cole; “Behind the Veil,” Janet McIntyre; “One Life,” Rachel Zabar; “As We Sleep,” Deena Lombardi; “Breaking Bread,” Moira Stephens; and “Welcome to New York,” Gabriella Spierer.

Finalists were selected by a panel of three judges from Showtime. Idea was conceived by Julie Corman, master teacher at Tisch’s Kanbar Institute of Film and TV, as a way for the students to address the tragedy.

Project was open to all members plus alums up to five years out of Kanbar’s graduate film program.
