Fox’s “Moulin Rouge” was the big winner Saturday at the Intl. Press Academy’s sixth annual Golden Satellite Awards.
The tuner took eight prizes, including nods for director (Baz Luhrmann), score (Craig Armstrong) and two for Catherine Martin: art direction (shared with Ian Gracie) and costume design. In the musical/comedy races, the pic won for best film, actress (Nicole Kidman), actor (Ewan McGregor) and supporting thesp (Jim Broadbent).
Runner up was New Line’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” with four wins: mixed media film, visual effects, editing and sound.
Miramax’s “In the Bedroom” garnered three nods: drama pic, adapted script and actress (Sissy Spacek).
Universal/DreamWorks’ “A Beautiful Mind” and USA Films’ “Gosford Park” earned two wins. Six other films nabbed one apiece.
In the TV races, Showtime and HBO tied with three wins. Earning two apiece were ABC, Fox and NBC.
The organization also hands out awards to new media.
