Par reincarnates ‘Peter Proud’

Fincher could helm Rudin-owned remake

David Fincher is in discussions to direct “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” for Paramount Pictures.

Project was bought as a high-profile spec last year when Par-based Scott Rudin optioned remake rights for $700,000 against $2.2 million in Dec 2001 ( Daily Variety, Dec. 9).

Project would be the second high-profile teaming between the “Panic Room” helmer and Par after he recently signed up to direct “Mission: Impossible III” for Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.

“Proud” pic will be produced by Rudin along with Alison Rosenzweig, Tracie Graham and Daniel Ostroff.

Original 1975 pic, released by American Independent Pictures, followed a young college professor who experiences flashbacks from a previous incarnation and is mysteriously drawn to the town of his “wife” from another time.

Rudin is in release with the hit Par drama “Changing Lanes,” directed by Roger Michell, starring Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson.

Fincher’s CAA reps declined comment.
