Fresh off Universal’s “Undercover Brother,” Eddie Griffin will play the lead in the Motion Picture Corp. of America and IWP/Gemini Films actioner “Blast!”
Written by “Die Hard” scribe Steven E. De Souza and directed by Anthony Hickox (“Hellraiser III”), “Blast!” is described as “Die Hard” on an oil rig.
Principal photography will commence in December in South Africa, with casting ongoing.
Brad Krevoy, Klaus Rettig and David Lancaster are producing the pic on a $20 million budget.
The William Morris- and Brillstein-Grey-repped Griffin next appears in his own script, laffer “My Baby’s Mama,” at Miramax Films, helmed by Cheryl Dunye. Pic is lensing in Toronto and will preem next year.
In March, Artisan Entertainment will release MPCA’s Mort Nathan-directed “Boat Trip.” Cuba Gooding Jr. toplines with Horatio Sanz, Roger Moore and Victoria Silvstedt.
In addition, MPCA has just completed principal photography and is in post-production on the teen comedy “Barely Legal,” penned by “American Pie 2” scribe David Steinberg. Directed by David Mickey Evans, the Amy Smart starrer is a teen sex comedy about an attempt to produce an adult film.
