HOLLYWOOD — Exodus Film Group and its digital visual effects studio, ElectroAge, will produce “Paul Bunyan,” a live-action-meets-CGI pic based on the folkloric character.

“Home Alone” exec producer Tarquin Gotch will exec produce “Bunyan,” and composer Basil Poledouris will oversee the music. Pic will be directed by Michael Nickles and written by Nickles and Julia Wall, who served as associate producer on the critically acclaimed documentary “Hands on a Hardbody.”

Equity investors, including a number from the state of Minnesota, where the Bunyan figure is a revered icon, back the $10 million-budgeted pic. Pic will shoot in the state this fall.

Set in contemporary times, the film will tell the folk tale of Paul Bunyan and his big blue ox, Babe. CGI animation is being used to create Babe, while other characters will be live action. Pic will be Exodus’ first feature film project since its inception last June and the second for ElectroAge, which recently completed a series of visual effects shots for “Sabretooth.”
