Euro B.O. up a quarter by 2006

Admissions to top $7 billion

LONDON — European box office is projected to hit €7.4 billion ($7.24 billion) in 2006, up 24.3% on 2001.

The forecast from Dodona Research is included in a new study that also shows B.O. rose at least 75% in Europe in the six years to 2001, when the annual tally was $5.5 billion.

Dodona said that 76% of the region’s admissions during the period were in the five major markets – France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K.

The fastest growing market, however, was Portugal with a 120% increase in screens and a 255% boost in B.O. The Czech Republic, up 229% in B.O., and Poland (214%) also performed exceptionally well.
