Michael Clarke Duncan has signed to portray a Manhattan crime boss in “Daredevil,” the 20th Century Fox-New Regency adaptation of the Marvel Comics franchise.
Duncan, whose credits include “Planet of the Apes,” “The Green Mile” and “The Whole Nine Yards,” will play the Kingpin, the title character’s archenemy. In the comic, the Kingpin stands 6 feet, 7 inches, and weighs 450 pounds. Reportedly, Duncan has long been attached to the role.
“Daredevil” has a tentative release date of Feb. 14, 2003. Ben Affleck will play the blind lawyer and martial arts expert who becomes the costumed crime-fighting vigilante known as Daredevil.
Jennifer Garner, who recently copped a Golden Globe for her work on “Alias,” is expected to play love interest Elektra (Daily Variety, Jan. 14).
Mark Steven Johnson wrote the script and is directing the film, with Gary Foster and Avi Arad producing.
