It looks like Alejandro Jodorosky’s much-mooted “Los hijos del Topo” (The Sons of El Topo), the sequel to his legendary “El Topo,” may be finally going into production –set up at Mathias Ehrenberg’s and Christian Valdelievre’s Titan Producciones in Mexico.

“We have a deal. Now we just have to work out how to structure it,” Ehrenberg tells Variety.

Described by Ehrenberg as a “post-post-nuclear swashbuckler set in a medieval desert wilderness,” “Los hijos del Topo” will be shot in Mexico.

Ehrenberg was in charge of the production of Julian Schnabel’s “Before Night Falls,” which was entirely shot in Mexico and New York.

Titan has also committed as associate producer on Juan Luis Bunuel’s “La Reconquista” (The Re-Conquest).

Pic is produced by Juliette Bunuel’s Rumba Prod. in Paris.

Mixing politics and fiction, but inspired by facts, pic is set in the near future and kicks off with the attempted assassination of a Hispanic politician. Bunuel has delivered a treatment; Jean Claude Carriere will write the screenplay with Bunuel.

Per Ehrenberg, Titan is also in talks with Spanish producer Francisco Ramos to collaborate on two films next year, one to be shot in Mexico, the other in Spain.

A Titan-Lola co-production, Celia Roth starrer “La hija del canibal” (The Cannibal’s Daughter) will be released in Mexico through 20th Century Fox.

Pic looks set to be included in the co-production alliance between Titan and Brazil’s Total Entertainment.
