Underscoring the recovery of the Far East in general and Korea in particular, leading Spanish distribution and sales company Sogepaq has rolled out a bevy of pics in the region.
Daniel Calparsoro’s warpic “Guerreros” clinched an all-rights deal with Japan’s Gaga Communications. Korea’s strong startup Cinestar stepped up to the plate for the warpic, which also sold to Taiwan’s Spring Cinema, Hong Kong’s Winson and Thailand’s MJC Ent.
Vicente Aranda’s historical meller “Mad Love” was picked up by Daiei in Japan and Thailand’s New World.
Deals follow Gaga’s purchase of Luna’s sci-fi pic “Stranded” at the AFM. The sci-fi pic sold to Thailand’s New World at Cannes.
Mopping up outstanding territories on “Sex and Lucia,” Sogepaq closed Taiwan with Cineplex.
“With much of Latin America in recession or facing financial and political instability, Asia has come through to take up the slack, and then some, ” said Eva Diederix, Sogepaq director of international sales.
Sogepaq’s London Screenings/Mifed sales slate looks set to add two new pics: Enrique Urbizu’s “Box 507,” starring Goya Toledo, and Imanol Uribe’s “Carol’s Journey.”
