Actor-producer Steven Seagal has launched production and sales company Luminosity Media. He will produce and star in its first two projects in conjunction with Millennium/Nu Image.
Pics are “Belly of the Beast” and “Out for a Kill.” Budgeted at $20 million each, they will be produced with Emmett/Furla Films.
Luminosity plans to produce and distribute two titles a year, but both “Belly” and Kill” will go out through Millennium.
Phillip Goldfine serves as president and COO of both Luminosity as well as Seagal’s production shingle, Steamroller Prods.
“I have wanted to do this for some time,” said Seagal. “This is a chance to not only to make and star in films in which I believe, but also to allow my company to get on the right track of true ownership of film negative.”
The first pic, “Belly,” is a terrorist thriller written by James Cox, James Townsend and Captain Mauzner. Pic begins shooting July 15 in Thailand.
“Out for a Kill,” written by Sam Hayes and Dennis Dimster, is an action pic set within the drug wars. Michael Oblowitz (“This World, Then The Fireworks”) will direct.
Seagal, Randy Emmett and George Furla will produce both films, with Goldfine serving as co-executive producer. Danny Lerner will also produce “Kill.”
Danny Dimbort, Avi Lerner and Trevor Short will serve as executive producers.
Emmett/Furla has an ongoing first-look arrangement with Millennium.
Seagal next stars in “Half Past Dead” this fall as well as the Oblowitz-helmed “Foreigner,” which is slated for March. Both are Screen Gems releases.
The Luminosity deal was put together by WMA Independents as well as Goldfine, Brillstein/Grey and Loeb & Loeb.
