Recast ‘Rain’ is under Fine Line’s umbrella

Pic 'Falls' from Myriad, to be recast

Fine Line Features will wholly finance and produce the provocative dark comedy “Rain Falls.” It goes into production in mid-July.

Naomi Watts and Kate Beckinsale are in discussions to star in the pic, which details the emotional fallout after an upper-middle-class suburb adopts the hobby of partner-swapping.

Pic is the directorial debut of scribe I. Marlene King (“Now and Then”). Sean Furst (“Owning Mahowny”) will produce the film.

New Line Intl. will handle foreign sales on the title, which is budgeted at under $10 million.

Pic was originally greenlit by Myriad Pictures, with a cast that included Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Thomas Jane, Amanda Peet and Ian Somerhalder. (Daily Variety, Sept. 9). However, the pic is now being entirely recast.

Myriad topper Kirk D’Amico and Myriad production prexy Lucas Foster will likely take an exec producing credit on the film.

Fine Line senior VP Guy Stodel brought the project into the company and will oversee production.

UTA packaged the project and repped King and Furst in the deal.
