Elizabeth Allen has been tapped to direct and rewrite the Team Todd production “American Princess” for New Line Cinema.
Set in the 18th century, pic is the tale of an English peasant girl who dreams of being a princess. After being caught playing “dress up” as Queen Charlotte, she is exiled to an American colony. There, she gets involved in the Revolution and falls in love with a dashing young political leader.
Allen is currently penning a rewrite of the script with Nick Pustay. They previously teamed on “Eyeball Eddie” a short film she made at USC. Original spec was penned by Dennis Abrams and Tom Bartok.
At one time, Andrew Fleming was attached to direct “American Princess.”
New Line execs Lynn Harris and Renee Witt will oversee “Princess” for the company.
Director is repped by Endeavor, Bondesen-Graup and Colden, McKuin and Frankel.
Allen also recently teamed with Pustay on the screen adaptation of Jerry Spinelli’s novel “Stargirl” for Paramount Pictures, with Nickelodeon Films producing.
“Stargirl” is an offbeat comedy that centers on an eccentric student who turns her high school on its head.
New Line has also sealed a deal with “The 51st State” helmer Ronny Yu to direct “Freddy vs. Jason.”
Pic is slated to start production later this year. Yu is repped by the Gersh Agency and Jason Sloan.
