Israel fest sets salutes

Marshall sees visionary nod, Medavoy nabs lifetime achievement

Penny Marshall and Mike Medavoy will be honored with lifetime achievement kudos at the 18th annual Israel Film Festival’s opening-night gala at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on April 10.

The actress-helmer will walk away with the visionary award, while Phoenix Pictures co-founder and producer Medavoy will receive the fest’s lifetime achievement honor.

Presentation will be followed immediately by the unspooling of Dov Koshashvili’s “Late Marriage,” part of the fest’s lineup of over 30 Israeli features, docus, TV dramas and student shorts. The B.O. hit recently garnered nine Israeli Oscars, including winning best picture, director, actor and actress.

Other honorees will include Israeli director Eli Cohen, who will take home the cinematic award for his contributions to the Israeli film industry. His latest film, “Rutenberg,” will make its U.S. debut at the fest.

The Israel Film Festival is produced by the Israeli government and numerous U.S. foundations and corporate sponsors. Over 450 Israeli films have debuted to more than 500,000 attendees in Los Angeles and New York over the past 18 years; fest will also run editions this year in Chicago and Miami. Other films skedded to preem at this year’s fest include “Desperado Square,” “Foreign Sister” and “Giraffes.”
