Richard Gere has signed on to “Without Apparent Motive” as his next starring role. Directed by Bille August, pic is skedded to go into production this fall in L.A.
“Motive” will be produced and financed by Splendid Pictures in association with Stratus Entertainment.
Written by Eric Blakeney (“Gun Shy”), “Without Apparent Motive” tracks a Los Angeles County sheriff’s detective (Gere) as he seeks the murderer of three high-profile businessmen.
The film will be exec produced by Splendid principals Andreas Klein and David Glasser, and produced by Faye Schwab and Mary Apick, Stratus’ Bob Yari and Jazz Pictures’ Amedeo Ursini.
The ICM-repped Gere will next be seen in the musical “Chicago” for Miramax Films.
Splendid projects in post are “Heaven’s Pond,” starring Tara Reid and Kip Pardue, and made in partnership with Davis Entertainment Filmworks, and “Cody Banks,” starring Frankie Muniz, in partnership with Dylan Sellers Prods. and Maverick Films.
Splendid is developing “The Courier,” to be directed by Dominic Sena; “Bear Force,” in partnership with Maverick; and “Like a Virgin,” with Untitled Entertainment and Maverick.
