MDP Worldwide and Michael Jackson’s Neverland Pictures have entered into an exclusive first-look deal with management and production shingle Handprint Entertainment.
First pic under the deal is expected to be “The Sixteen Pleasures,” with Handprint client Nicole Kidman attached to star.
Based on a novel by Robert Hellenga currently being adapted by John Collee (“Master and Commander”), “Sixteen” is the story of a book conservator who travels to Florence to help rescue art treasures that have been damaged by floods.
She falls in love with an older, married man and comes into possession of an extremely rare volume from the 16th century. In the process, she frees herself from the bindings of her old life.
The companies will have a partnership on “Sixteen” and all features produced through the new joint venture.
“In addition to immediate access to production financing, this partnership will give us greater control in greenlighting projects,” said Handprint principal Jeff Pollack.
Benny Medina and Pollack formed Handprint in 1995. Company is in production on Paramount Pictures/MTV Films’ “The Fighting Temptations” starring Cuba Gooding and Beyonce Knowles.
Handprint clients include Jennifer Lopez, Ben Chaplin, Janet McTeer and Martin Donovan.
