Angelus sets student film finalists

Event strives to showcase collegiate films that explore human condition

The Angelus Awards Student Film Fest, which fetes student filmmakers in animation, docu and live-action categories, has announced its slate of finalists for $23,000 in prize money at the org’s 7th annual kudofest Nov. 2.

A jury of industry pros, including documentarian Amy Sommer and Angel’s Touch Prods. head Philip Nemy, will select the winners for the fest, which was created by Hollywood’s Family Theater Prods. and strives to showcase collegiate films that explore the human condition with creativity, compassion and respect.

Aside from the regular prizes, which range from $1,500 to $5,000 each, the org will also fete one filmmaker with the Patrick Peyton Excellence in Filmmaking Award and a $10,000 prize.

The films selected in the live-action category are: “Abbie Down East,” “Because of Mama,” “Beyond Therapy,” “Big Blue Bus,” “The Cricket Player,” “Empty,” “The Penny Game,” “Rocks and Chocolate,” “The Wormhole” and “The Yard Sale.”

Animation finalists are: “Bert,” “Bluegaroo,” “The Letter from Heaven,” “Match Scratch Fever,” “Shadowplay” and “Sognatore.” Finalists in the docu category are: “Angelus Plaza,” “The Children of Ibda,” “I am Khmer,” “Left Behind,” “Our Road to Kosovo” and “Project Nepal: A Time to Learn.”
