Creatives toast fest as Tribeca launches

News orgs open DeNiro's latest venture

Variety and Paper magazine joined forces Monday night to toast Wednesday’s launch of the Tribeca Film Festival.

At Le Zinc, excitement and anticipation was summed up by Meira Blaustein, herself a director for the Woodstock film fest. “It’s good the focus is on downtown, which is very happening,” she said. “I’m expecting a lot of ripple effec t — I think creatives based in New York should benefit and I intend to do so.”

Mark Smelzer, associate publisher of Variety, welcomed such guests as IFC Film’s Bob Berney, Walden Media’s Perry Moore and Kisha Cameron, Crossroads Films’ Eugenie Granval and Mirella Cheeseman; thesps Aaron Stanford, Katie Mara, Amy Sedaris, Callie Thorne and Paul Dinello; and helmers Sunmin Park and Raoul Peck.
