The number of distributors of $100 million-plus grossers was bigger than ever at Thursday’s ACNielsen EDI Gold Reel Awards luncheon.
In fact, organizers made a last-minute move to a bigger banquet space at the BevHills Hotel to handle the extra attendance. Co-sponsored by Daily Variety, the event honored 21 pics from 12 different companies that passed the $100 million mark in the past year.
“The room has gotten much bigger, and that’s a tribute to all of you,” said Charlie Koones, group veep and publisher of Daily Variety.
EDI prexy Tom Borys added, “Every year, you all find ways to redefine what’s possible at the box office.”
The total number of pics did not set a record, Borys noted, but the number of distribs did. Trophies were awarded to Warner Bros., Disney, DreamWorks, Sony Classics, Paramount, MGM, USA, Fox, Miramax, New Line, Sony and Universal.
Along with distribution execs from each studio, attendees included DreamWorks marketing chief Terry Press, Fine Line prexy Mark Ordesky, and ACNielsen Entertainment prexy Andy Wing.
