LISBON — Fresh from its success in Berlin, “Bloody Sunday” by Paul Greengrass won Director’s Week and audience nods at the 22nd Oporto Intl. Film Festival (Fantasporto).
Spain’s “Fausto 5.0,” by Isidro Ortiz and La Fura Dels Baus, scooped Oporto’s Fantasy section Grand Prize and actor (Eduard Fernandez).
In the Fantasy section, other winners were Korea’s “Sorum,” which took jury, direction (Yoon Jong-Chan) and actress (Jin Yong Jeog) plaudits, and France’s “Vidocq” for special effects.
In the Director’s Week, Austria’s “Dog Days,” by Ulrich Seidl, won Special Jury Prize and Germany’s “Julieta,” by Christoph Stark, won direction.
The fest, which began Feb. 15 and wraps today, clocked up a record 140,000 admissions, 30% up on last year, and included retrospectives of the work of “Lord of the Rings” helmer Peter Jackson.
In June, Fantasporto organizers — helmed by Mario Dorminsky — will bow a complementary festival in Oporto’s neighboring city, Gaia.
