Coen’s ‘Man’ wins Golden Lady

'Gentle' takes Las Palmas special jury prize

MADRID — Joel Coen’s “The Man Who Wasn’t There” topped nods at the third Las Palmas Intl. Film Festival, scooping the Golden Lady Harimaguada on Sunday.

Actress honors went to Camille Panonacle for her perf in Maria Iliou’s family mystery drama “Alexandria.”

A portrayal of an old man’s battle against Alzheimer’s Disease, Emlyn William’s Welsh-lingo pic “Do Not Go Gentle” (“Oed yr Addewid”) took the special jury prize and actor plaudit which was shared between Stewart Jones and Arwel Gruffydd.

The Canary Islands’ nine-day fest, which wrapped Sunday, fest is increasingly popular among Spanish showbiz stars and industryites as a late winter break. One highlight was the presentation to Jacqueline Bisset (“The Deep”) of a career achievement award.
