Venue gets its feet wet with anni showing of 'Rain'

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has selected the Ames Auditorium as its official Gotham screening venue.

Auditorium, located at the Lighthouse Intl. on East 59th Street, has been refurbished with a new projection booth and sound equipment.

“Ever since the New York Events Committee was formed 15 years ago, it has continued to evolve into an increasingly important resource for New York Academy members,” said Arthur Manson, committee’s chair. “With our new home, we will be able to serve Academy members with a comfortable, state-of-the-art screening facility.”

Acad prexy Frank Pierson will be on hand Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Event will also be marked with a 50th anniversary screening of “Singin’ in the Rain” and unspooling of the Oscar-winning short “For the Birds.”
