BERLIN — German film group Helkon Media formally severed its distribution ties with Buena Vista Intl., it revealed on Wednesday.
Helkon had tried to end its relationship with BVI since January, when it complained that BVI had not unloaded its product to major television players like RTL and Kirch, with whom it had TV output deals.
Helkon titles previously handled by BVI Television in German-speaking territories have been returned to the Munich-based group.
“The reversion of these titles will assist distribution of our overall portfolio,” Helkon said in a statement. “We would like to thank BVI Theatrical and Television for their efforts on our behalf over the past two years and we appreciate the opportunity to be able to include these titles in our future sales efforts.”
BVI Theatrical will continue to handle theatrical distribution of Helkon titles previously announced as part of its 2002 release slate, including “Rollerball,” “The Musketeer,” “The Contender” and “Dark Blue World.”
New Helkon pics will be released by a new distribution partner, to be announced in coming weeks.
