Wirth to lead force on ‘District’

'Bridges' producer-scribe segues to D.C. skein

John Wirth is the new top cop behind the scenes on “The District.”

Wirth has inked to serve as exec producer-showrunner of the hit CBS drama next season, joining current exec producer Denise Di Novi. “District” co-creator Terry George, who had been exec producer during the show’s first season, will remain as a consultant to the series.

For the past five seasons, Wirth, whose deal was brokered by Endeavor, has been a scribe-producer on the Eye’s departing crime drama “Nash Bridges.” He most recently served as an exec producer on the skein.

The Craig T. Nelson starrer has been one of the Eye’s strongest frosh performers this season, averaging 12.7 million viewers and ranking as the second most-watched new drama of the season on any network, behind only “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” also on CBS. “The District” has helped boost CBS’ adults 25-54 ratings at 10 p.m. Saturday by a healthy 12%.

Before joining “Nash” in 1996, Wirth was a writer and supervising producer on the Eye drama “Picket Fences.” He’s also written for “Diagnosis Murder” and “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.”
