U.K. cable biz combines ad sales

NTL taps Lambie-Nairn for creative director

LONDON — NTL and Telewest, the U.K.’s two cable operators, are combining their advertising sales operations.

The move, effective July 1, will for the first time allow advertisers to buy campaigns across British cable. Sales for all media will be handled by Flextech Sales, a subsid of Telewest programming division Flextech.

NTL and Telewest already have a joint venture in pay-per-view movie service Front Row. Most observers expect the two to eventually merge.

Meanwhile, NTL has appointed Martin Lambie-Nairn to the new post of creative director.

Lambie-Nairn, a branding specialist, will oversee standardizing NTL’s brand across all its platforms, from TV to interactive to broadband.
