‘Sopranos’ complaints rejected

Panel sez skein's graphic style appropriate to story

TORONTO — Complaints about “The Sopranos” have been dismissed by Canada’s broadcast standards regulator.

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) has rejected viewer complaints that the series’ sex-and-violence quotient is too high and that it is derogatory to the Italian community. The CBSC said the show’s graphic style is appropriate to the story being told and that the antics of the Soprano family is specific to that fictional set of characters and not the Italian community in general.

The CBSC chided national network CTV, however, for not showing viewer warnings after each commercial break when it aired the show opposite the Olympics in primetime last year.
