Tavis Smiley, the former BET talkshow host, is on his way to becoming a major media personality with broadcast, cable and radio deals in the works.

Smiley has sealed a deal with ABC News to become an occasional contributor to “Primetime Live” and “Good Morning America” (Daily Variety, April 3). He has also pacted with CNN to appear on various shows, including “TalkBack Live” and “Inside Politics.”

In addition, he is close to signing a deal with ABC Radio that would include continued appearances on “The Tom Joyner Morning Show.” Smiley already appears on the show twice a week, but he’ll now have a larger presence.

Buena Vista Television is also in the early stages of developing a show for Smiley.

Smiley was fired from BET in March after he sold an exclusive interview with accused ’70s terrorist Sara Jane Olsen to “Primetime Live” without first offering it to BET.
