Peru orders arrest of channel owner

World Brief

A Peruvian judge has ordered the arrest of Ernest Shutz, majority shareholder of Panamericana Television-Canal 5, for his alleged part in a corruption scandal.

A secretly filmed video, released Tuesday, allegedly shows Shutz taking $350,000 in cash from disgraced former national security adviser Vladimiro Montesinos to slant news coverage in favor of then-President Alberto Fujimori.

Shutz is accused of receiving more than $10 million from Montesinos between 1998 and 2000.

He is the eighth Peruvian TV owner accused of ties to the scandal that brought down Fujimori’s government last year.
