Series about teen girls, skateboarder join TNBC sked

HOLLYWOOD — NBC will add two new skeins to its teen-oriented “TNBC” Saturday morning lineup this fall: a relationship comedy about four girls in Chicago and an action series that follows the exploits of a young skateboarder.

The network will announce its Saturday morning schedule at a luncheon today.

New shows include “All About Us,” from longtime TNBC producer Peter Engel Prods. (“Saved by the Bell”). It stars Marieh Delfino, Alecia Elliot, Crystal Grant and Alicia Lagano as four teenage friends on the road to young adulthood. The half-hour will air Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning Aug. 4.

“(It’s a) female character-driven show that focuses on issues that are important to girls,” said Lee Gaither, vice president of Saturday Morning and Family Programs at NBC.

The other new skein, “Skate,” comes from the Tom Lynch Co. (“The Secret World of Alex Mack”). The series, which will mostly be shot by mini digital camera, focuses on a 15-year-old boy who works for an online video magazine and dreams of becoming a professional skateboarder.

Christopher Mack and Tom Lynch created “Skate”; casting is under way. The series will air Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. starting Oct. 6.

“We wanted to create a rawness and immediacy that is the skate culture,” Lynch said. “It will be very physical.”

As for the rest of the TNBC sked, Peter Engel Prods.’ “City Guys” returns for a fifth season, kicking off the morning at 10, with a second episode at noon; Tom Lynch Co.’s “Just Deal” is back for a second year at 11, following “All About Us”; and “NBA Inside Stuff” airs at 12:30 p.m. after the second installment of “City Guys.”

“(These shows) each reflect genres that teens like to watch in primetime and on cable,” Gaither said.
