MOSCOW — Pubcaster ORT has axed cult kids show “Spokoinoi Nochi, Malyshi” (Goodnight Little Ones) from its schedule.
The show has aired in primetime on ORT, and its Soviet-era predecessor pubcaster Ostankino, since 1964.
Culture channel Kultura will pick up the show, but that hasn’t satisfied fans — both adults and children — as Kultura’s reach is about a quarter of ORT’s.
Animal puppet stars, including Khryusha the piglet and Stepashka the rabbit, will get slightly more airtime with Kultura, which can offer them up to 15 minutes six nights a week.
Show faced the ax a decade ago, but audience protests forced programmers to change their mind.
This time, however, ORT says there has been no comparable reaction. That may be because viewers now can catch the animated grownup — and distinctly bratty — prototypes of the main characters nightly on rival commercial channel TV-6 in parody “Get Those Lights Off!”
