Stephen Doerr has been appointed senior VP of news, programming and creative development for the NBC Television Stations division.
Doerr most recently was president and general manager of KXAS, NBC’s Dallas O&O. He replaces Steve Cagle, who is leaving to join SmithGeiger Research & Consulting as executive VP and partner.
Doerr will be responsible for development programming and negotiating syndication deals, digitizing news and creative service operations, creating new research capabilities for station operations and coordinating divisionwide news coverage. Based in Gotham, he will work with other network divisions to find ways to share resources and programming.
“Steve’s news savvy, combined with his past experience as a stations division executive, makes him ideally suited to lead our efforts in seeking out new and smarter ways to do business,” said Jay Ireland, NBC Television Stations prexy, to whom Doerr will continue to report.
Before joining KXAS, Doerr was VP and chief quality officer of the NBC Television Stations division. Previously, he was vice president/news director at WCAU, the NBC-owned station in Philadelphia.
