‘Millionaire’ buys up another new aud

World Brief

Chile’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” which bowed April 2, has catapulted Catholic station UCTV to the top of the ratings. Last month’s stats equaled peaks rarely hit by anything but soccer championships.

“Millionaire” is hosted by Latin American superstar Don Francisco, real name Mario Kreutzberger, who originally turned down the gig due to commitments, explains UCTV’s Cristian Contreras.

ECM has the exclusive distribution and executive production of “Millionaire” in Latin America. It airs in Colombia (Caracol TV) and Venezuela (RCTV) and launches next month in Argentina. It is due to unspool in Peru, Ecuador and Uruguay. “Millionaire” was created by indie Celador Productions in 1998 for the U.K.’s ITV.
