MIAMI — Colombian broadcaster Canal Caracol has upped journalist and TV personality Paulo Laserna to prexy of the network.
Laserna had been assistant to former net president Ricardo Alarcon since September 1999; he took over the top job Oct. 3.
No reason was given for Alarcon’s departure.
Beyond his radio and journalism work, Laserna is known to Colombian viewers as a recent host of a local production of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
Caracol is one of Colombia’s two private broadcast networks. Prior to privatization in September 1998, it was a producer for government-owned stations.
Laserna served as VP of information at rival network RCN from December 1997 to December 1998 and had previously worked at other pro-duction companies.
Caracol has a multiyear co-production accord with U.S. Hispanic network Telemundo.
Caracol also is co-producing race-track-themed telenovela “Amor a Mil” with Disney’s Buena Vista Intl.
