PARIS — After several stops and starts, France’s Lagardere will launch channel Match TV Dec. 10.
General entertainment web, to be available on CanalSatellite as well as France Telecom Cable and NC NumeriCable, is inspired by the enormously successful French weekly Paris Match, a cross between People and New York magazine.
“Match TV will be the channel of people, famous or not,” said Jean-Louis Remilleux, the newly appointed director of the web.
Web will be organized around three themes: personalities, news and the art of living, offering 19 hours of programming, including talkshows, magazines, special reports, series, films and telepics. Annual budget of the station will be approximately 12.9 million euros ($11.5 million).
Lagardere is a growing force in the television sector here, mainly through its interests in CanalSatellite, of which it owns 34%.
Arnaud Lagardere, co-founder of the group, said he believed that “Match TV fits in naturally among the other Lagardere channels,” which include Canal J and MCM.
