Japanese baseball ratings slide

World Brief

TV ratings of local pro baseball games have fallen to a nine-year low as U.S. major league teams snap up Japanese players, including Ichiro Suzuki and Daimajin Sasaki, who now play for the Seattle Mariners, and Shigeo Nomo of the Boston Red Sox.

Fans are even deserting popular Tokyo Yomiuri Giants games, which have seen their share drop from 26.7% to under 20%, to tune into pubcaster NHK’s satellite feed of U.S. baseball.
