Italo channel will unleash holy ‘Deluge’

Quiz show focuses on Bible

MILAN — Rome-based Catholic satellite TV network Sat2000 will be focusing on pope culture rather than pop culture when it launches a quizshow today focusing on the Bible.

“A Deluge of Questions” will air Tuesdays to Fridays in early fringe and rebroadcast in primetime and the following morning.

Show is produced by Italian film helmer Pupi Avati, a Catholic who is a close associate of the TV network, which is officially backed by the Italian Bishops Conference.

Twelve groups of teenagers will take part in the biblical quizzer, whose questions will be focused on the Old Testament. Awards will not be in cash but in airline miles to fly around the world.

“We have been working on this idea for a long time,” Avati said. “We wanted to create a program in which young people play a major role, have some fun and get to communicate in a cultural way.”

Launched in February 1998, Sat2000 is the first national religious channel created in Italy. It is part of pubcaster RAI’s digital bouquet on the Eutelsat Hot Bird 2. The channel already airs religion-themed sudser “Dear Tomorrow.”
