Hearst Entertainment has won merchandising and licensing rights for classic property Felix the Cat in the U.S. and Canada, including a new Baby Felix animated series that’s currently a hit in Japan.
Thirteen episodes of “The Baby Felix and Friends Show” have been produced, and another 13 are in development.
In addition, Felix the Cat Prods. and TF1 recently agreed to co-produce 52 animated half hours of “Felix the Cat” that will be available for broadcast in the U.S. in the fall of 2002.
Felix was created in the 1920s by Otto Messmer. “The classic value alone is outstanding, and this coupled with the new television programming being developed will position Felix the Cat for the next 80 years,” said Leslie Levine, VP of entertainment licensing for Hearst Entertainment.
Hearst will formally announce the partnership at the Licensing Show, which unspools in Gotham next month.
